PONS ARTIS strives to lead opera away from a classical point of view to a successful combination of theater and opera that is adequate for the modern connoisseur of music as well as the theater lover. For this purpose, the ensemble concentrates on contemporary music and new interpretations of classical pieces.
The ensemble was founded 1992 in Vienna. Since then PONS ARTIS concerts under Andrija Pavlic include appearances in Vienna (Konzerthaus, Rathaus, Palais Palffy, and other), as well as in Salzburg, Munich and Bratislava. Starting in 1993 PONS ARTIS regularly produces the event Klang Brücken, where solo performers from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia premiere in Vienna. It is this festival, where compositions from these regions are heard for the first time in Austria.
Successful opera productions by PONS ARTIS include a staged version
of Arnold Schoenberg / Albert Giraud's Pierrot
lunaire an interpretation of G.B. Pergolesi’s Il
servo padrone with new lyrics by Gerhard Rosenthaler, or Haubenstock
Ramatie’s Comedie (after S. Beckett), where the ensemble demonstrated its
variety that is enthusiastically received by a broad audience.
